I remember sitting in my 5th grade classroom listening to my teacher explain to us that something has happened in New York. We were only in elementary school so we didn't understand what was going on. As I made my way home my parents had told me that two airplanes had crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. I was too young to understand what that meant to the people of America. After living through September 11th I have realized how close America came together. Everyone began showing their support for the people that died that day and became very patriotic. I realized how lucky I was to be an American, living in a country that shows so much support for others
What were you doing on the morning of September 11, 2001? How did it impact your life?

During September 11, I was in 5th grade and I remember having the teacher tell me that we were all safe. Of course I was really young and naive at the time. I remember we could not play on the playground or go outside and I was really upset from it. I had no idea what had happened because none of the adults were telling the students anything. I remember my 5th grade teacher was crying and i was so confused why she was crying because no one informed the kids what was going on. Also, when i got home i finally realized that two planes have hit the the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. I was in shock what had happened, but it still did not hit me until when I was older that 9/11 was a very serious problem.
When the tragic event on September 11th occured I was sitting in a classroom at Beverly Elementary School. I remember Mr. Iatrou's face going blank as another teacher whispered him the news. They didn't tell us details, all we heard was that there was something going on in New York City that was going to have a huge impact on our lives. Some kids were picked up early while others stayed the whole day.
September 11, 2001 definitely had an impact on my life. I realized that the people around me came together to get through the though times. It really brought all Americans closer as a country.

I also remember where I was and what I was doing on September 11th when the World Trade Center and Pentagon where hit. I was sitting in my fifth grade class getting ready for fifth grade camp, we were talking about the right way to ride a horse so we wouldn't get hurt. All of a sudden kids were getting called down to the office and getting picked up; and at the end of the day, only about eight people were left in class. When i got home and learned what had happened in New York, I too, like Emily, did not understand exactly what this meant. I knew it was something really bad because thousands of innocent people had lost their lives; but I didn't know the extent of the attacks. After that day, America was definitely a lot more united. Store owners were selling a lot more products that had the american flag or "God Bless America" written on them. The whole country was very supportive and donated or helped out in any way that they could. And that showed a lot about the people of America, that when fellow americans are in serious need of support, we are there for them.
After September 11th, I was a lot more aware about what was going on in the world, and what that meant for me. I started watching and listening to the news more because so much of what was going on in the world effected americans, which in turn affected me.
