The other day we started watching One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and it was not like what I expected. I expected the people to act differently, especially Nurse Ratched. I expected her to be meaner in the way she went about her job and how she treated the patients. In reading the book, i got the impression that daily schedule of the patients was a lot more strict than it was portrayed in the movie. In the movie the patients could smoke whenever they wanted to and could play board games and cards when they pleased. Even though we just started the movie, I really like it, a lot better then Cool Hand Luke. Some of the patients are very funny, but at the same time, it is kind of sad to see the way that some of them are treated; and how some of them are so sick and will be in this state for the rest of their lives. I feel really bad for the mentally ill and the people that have to stay in a mental hospital. I think it is so sad to see people that are mentally ill, like the patients that are played in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
Even though we have not gotten very far in the movie, what do you think about it so far? Do you like it? Do you think it is anything like the book? Which one do you think is better? How do you feel about the treatment of the mentally ill?

As I mentioned in a previous post before, I enjoyed the movie but I was also terrified. The actors are so good at trying to be exactly how the character was described and they have done such a good job in what we have seen so far int he movie that I even had a nightmare that night!! I think that the movie and book are very similar but many things are different, I'm eager to continue watching the movie and make more assumptions and observations about how the book and movie are simliar or different. For now, I still enjoy the book better because I can make the characters up in my mind as to what they really look like. In the movie the characters are best described but in my head they still look completely different. We haven't watched much of the movie to really understand how the mentally ill are treated but I know that if I was in that place...I would go NUTS.
Even though we just started the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, I am really enjoying it. I agree with Lauren that the movie is extremely different from the book. When I was reading I had a mental picture of each individual character. After seeing the characters in the movie my thoughts were completely wrong. I pictured Nurse Ratched to be extremely strict and harsh. I didn't think The Chief would look the way he does. Even though we were told how big he is, I never expected him to be that large. I thought McMurphy was going to be a lot tougher looking. I predicted him to be a lot more intimidating.
I like the book better than the movie. Both are great in their own ways, but the book has a lot more detail. It's horrible the way that the mentally ill patients were treated in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I want to be a psychologist and I'm really interested in those who have mental illnesses.
The movie was very interesting. I'm more of a visual person, so I think I connected more with the movie than the book. The movie helped me understand McMurphy as a character. Chief turned out to be one of my favorite characters in all of the movies I have seen. "One flew over the cuckoo’s nest" is truly a great book and movie.
I didn’t like how the movie ended, but I guess that’s what makes the movie so great. I was curious to see what happened to chief after he left the hospital. I really admired McMurphy’s personality through out the movie. He demonstrated great social skills. He definitely is a people person, and deserves to be somebody. In the movie he runs the ward like its his job. I absolutely loved the little things he did to piss off Ms. Ratched, which was genius. Overall great movie!
I actually like the movie better then the book. It gives me a visual on how everyone looks and I really like that. However, I like the description in the book better then in the movie. The movie is very rushed and a lot of detail is cut out. I agree with Lauren about how Nurse Ratched acts. She seems a lot nicer in the movie then in the book. I like how the book portrays Nurse Ratched rather then the movie. When I was watching the movie I liked to see if how I imagined the book layed out the same as the movie. Even though that the movie took out a lot of detail, it was very entertaining and gave me a better visual of the book "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
