When your walking down the street, you always see designer labels. When you see the alligator, you think Lacoste; when you see a horse, you think Ralph Lauren Polo; when you see the famous swoosh, you think Nike. Why is it that so many teenagers think this way? Younger generations of girls and boys think that they need to have these designer clothes in order to fit in. Just like in the essay we read in class entitled "Swoosh", girls as young as twelve and thirteen years old are begging their parents to take them shopping to get these desginer clothes that distinctly have the logo visible to everyone. My younger sister is becoming one of those young girls who only wants certain types of clothes. It seems like she only wants clothes from Hollister, and the clothes she does have from Hollister all say the brand name on the front of the shirt, or have the bird in the top left corner of the shirt.
What do you think this says about our younger generations? Why do you think younger girls and boys think that they need to have these designer clothes in order to fit in? Did you use to shop at certain stores, just for the logo? Do you know anyone that does?

The ads make people think if you buy this brand, that means your cooler, or have a higher status than someone else. If you walk through a local mall and you pass an Abercrombie store the first thing you see are male or female body’s half naked. These attractive poster boys bring in the little middle school kids. That’s the icon. Everyone wants to look the best, and some are willing to pay 80 bucks for ripped jeans. That’s today’s society. No matter what, nothing is simple or cheap these days. The sad thing is people judge you if you don’t have the brand name clothing. Really? Come on America. Old Navy is not bad. I can go to old navy and buy a pair of flip flops for 15 bucks. But if I go to Ralph Lauren to get a pair I would pay double, or more.
I remember in middle school it was really cool to wear Hollister. I was exactly like your sister, only wanting things that came from Hollister. Our younger generation just wants to fit in, and they think by getting these certain clothes it's going to help them. Especially in middle school, people want to have the "cool" shoes and clothing. Middle school is a hard time for lots of kids. You just want to be accepted by everyone. I have grown out of the Hollister stage, and now I just look for cute clothes that fit my personal style. I don't only go to certain stores. I think it's weird that when I go to baby-sit my five year old neighbor, she's wearing Ugg boots. It's not even that she has the boots; it's that she refers to them as Uggs. At the young age of five she already knows brands.
My brother is the exact same way. Hes in eight grade and i feel like all he wears is Hollister. And its true all their clothes either have the name all over the shirt or the bird somewhere on the clothes. As advertising gets more and more competetive companies have to start thinking of better ideas to sell their products. We are starting to fast forward through the ads on tv becuase a lot of people have ti-vo, or we start to ignore the ads because it is just another thing to look at. Companies now have to make their clothing look appealing and in style so that kids will think it is cool to wear their clothing. Once people start to see more and more people wear the certain brand then they think it is cool, so they start wearing it and showing it off. It is human nature for people to want to fit into society. That is the reason people buy things for more. It is to show off and proove that they fit in just like everyone else.
When commercials and magazines have certain advertisements that include famous people, colors and other things that are eye catching people suddenly want to get it. Some people don't care about the money, they only care about the label and what it is. People sometimes think that if they have the clothes and they have the actual label on anything that peopel will look at them and know their "status". I almost feel bad about the younger generations because they have to grow up caring all about howmuch money they have and where they buy their clothes from. I think that the society we live in have several different classes and everyone just wants to find their place and fit in with their friends so they need to be and have exactly what they have. Growing up of course i wanted all the Hollister and Abercrombie clothes once i got into middle school I realized that it wasn't about the clothes. Now, I shop anywhere that I like the clothes from. Labels do not mean anything to me, if I like the clothes I wear them.
