MEAN GIRLS

Attitude, lies, rumors, and looks, all things that high school students worry about. Every day we wake up and get ready. When we get ready we put this mask on top of your true identity. Sometimes you don’t know that you’re doing it but you are. Girls wear makeup, spend hours on their looks, and have this thought that they’re going to be judged. Of course there going to be judged, its high school and that’s the way it is. “Mean girls” isn’t a perfect representation of high school but close to it. The nice thing about Groves is there isn’t clichés, or groups at groves there isn’t a group called “plastics”.

Students of groves are lucky to have a multi culture filled school. This could be different for other schools. But why is the society the way it is? Why is it that more attractive girls have more of a chance getting a guy or a job? This is a problem that needs to be seen. Girls shouldn’t feel obligated to put this mask on their identity to get the attention of a male or female, which ever they prefer.

The problem is, it’s a way of life. Every morning people wake up and hide themselves. Whether it’s doing something to impress someone else, or putting on an act that isn’t your true self. I think “high school” is exaggerated. You see all these movies with sex, drugs, and this sense of negative act of high school students. When really it’s not like that. At groves there isn’t a thing called “freshmen Fridays” or “plastics”. Sometimes people take things way too far. Or have this stereotype image in their head. I could be wrong but this is just my opinion on high school and how it is shown in society.

What did you think of the movie “mean girls”?
Is Groves similar to this movie?

I really liked the movie Mean Girls. I think it's an extreme version of how typical high school girls are. Certain high school girls do care a lot about their appearance and what others think of them. I agree with you that Groves girls don't act exactly how the girls in Mean Girls acted. One problem that was shown in the movie that occurs in high schools is girls talking about other girls. A lot of us tend to judge others, even though it's not the right thing to do. I completely agree that it is easier for good looking girls to get guys and jobs. It's not fair that looks can get you so far. This topic goes back to our class discussions on the media and how it influences us. The movie Mean Girls is an exaggeration on the truth.

In my opinion, many, if not most girls wake up each morning and put on this "mask", as Rocky said, to hide certain things about themselves. As much as we would want to deny this, there is always something you don't want everyone to know or see about you, so you hide it. At Groves, we don't have "the popular girls" or "the geeks", like how high schools are portrayed in movies and on television. I don't think it's right that "prettier" girls have an easier time getting a guy or a job, but that is just the way our society is I guess. And those girls will probably go through life getting things handed to them, as opposed to working for what they want; and I don't think that's right. I do really like the movie, "Mean Girls", but it is definitely an exageration of what high schools really are, and how students act. We don't go around school calling other girls sluts and whores, we dont keep books with comments about other girls, and we don't go out of our way to ruin someone's life. The good thing about Groves being so diverse is that we are surrounded by many different cultures and beliefs, and many different types of people, and we are very open and accepting of one another, probably not as much as we should, but definitely more than what the girls in Mean Girls are.

Although we have all seen Mean Girls several times, I think that each time we watch it we gain more knowledge about how people act, and how they "attempt" to act. I don't think people from groves act as if they are tryign to be someone they are not although at every high school, I believe their are a few. I think that most people try to sometimes hide their true feelings about themselves or other people and others are just more...out going. Some people aren't afraid to say how they really feel and those are usually the ones that end up becoming backstabbed or used by their friends. I agree with Lauren about Groves being so diverse and I think that has a lot to do with people not being afraid of who they are. Everyone is different and that is how the world is supposed to be.

I thought that the movie Mean Girls was an overexagerated version of how high school is suppose to be like. I really enjoyed the movie because I loved how they make everything more dramatic and a much bigger deal then in real life. When i think of Groves, I think of how lucky we are that we do not have a high school like the movie Mean Girls. For the most part everyone gets along and when people don't it doesn't turn into a huge fight where the whole school partakes in. We are lucky that we don't have a school where it is so separated into how you act, your race, or what you wear. Everyone is very accepting of each other.
