Super Size Me vs. Mean Girls

Within the past couple weeks we have watched two great movies during class. Mean Girls focused on high school girls and how cruel they can be. The movie brought up stereotypes and rumors. Some believe it's an exaggeration on how high school girls act, but I believe there is some truth behind it. Gossiping and talking about others is something many high school girls do, even though it's not right. The movie showed how rumors and lies can create huge problems. The plastics had certain days where they had to wear certain things. Do you think our society focuses too much on looks and materialistic items? Super Size Me was made to show America how horrible fast food is for you, and how advertising makes us want it anyways. Commercials for McDonald's show food that looks a lot different than what you actually get. Advertisments for McDonald's fail to mention how many calories their different meals contain, and the negative health effects of eating it. It's embarressing to know that Michigan is one of the fatest states in America. Advertising for unhealthy products isn't helping us.

Which movie did you perfer? What was your favorite part of each movie?

I do think that our society focuses too much on looks and materialistic items. Why is it so important that we have to have certain items of clothing, or shoes, or we have to look a certain way? Magazines, television commercials, and celebrities influence our lives so much. We see celebrites wearing a certain shirt, and then we feel like we have to have it, or we see girls in magazines and we think that we have to look just like them in order to fit in. I also agree with Jordan in saying that it is embarrassing knowing that Michigan is one of the top fattest states in the country. Out of both of these movies I would have to say that I prefer Mean Girls over Super Size Me. Watching Super Size Me makes me sick to my stomach and makes me never want to eat fast food again. Mean Girls was very entertaining but also makes a good point in showing how the unwritten rules of society makes us act.

My favorite movie of the two would have to be "super size me." I think "mean girls" was a terrible representation of today’s society with males and females in high school. The first problem with that movie was Lindsey Lohan. Honestly, High school is nothing like that, well at least not at Groves. I thought the narration from Lohan was cheesy and annoying. I also believe everything in the movie was exaggerated to the extreme. Now I could be wrong and this could happen at other schools, or cultures, but from what I know it doesn’t at Groves. Yes everyone and every society has drama, sex, drugs, and alcohol. The difference between the movie and I is I hang out around people that strive to do good in school. I also believe people from Groves feel like they have to do well in academics, instead of being the school slut, or the schools “plastics.” As time goes on our society as we know it now will no longer exist.

I think that society does focus too much on appearance on who owns what. I feel like it all starts when we are younger. We are introduced to the prettier girls get what they want and the macho guys get what they want as well. As for the people that aren't good looking then they sometimes get picked on and never get what they want. If society keeps focuses on things such as that, then society is always going to be based on what people have and looks. Also, as far as the movies go, I would have to say I liked watching Mean Girls better then Supersize me. Super Size Me kind of made america look pathetic and overweight. It also made me nausea to watch him eat McDonalds for 30 days. I thought that Mean Girls was more entertaining. It also should some hidden truth behind on how teenagers act.

To be honest, I enjoyed Mean girls over Super Size Me. I think that where we live and our country focuses way too much on issues that aren't necessarily important to one another and we need to focus on more important things that affect our country. People are way too judgemental and if you don't have the latest hottest trend you aren't necessarily "cool" I think that Mean Girls had a very good example of how people should and should not be treated and we all need to learn from it. Super Size Me was a movie that proved the reasons why peopel are unable to be themselves because advertisements are taking over.
